Cosmoscow 2023 Media Forum by the Association of Galleries: current problems of the Russian art market

Every year, Association's members choose priority areas of activity for the AGA. One of the main goals that defined 2023 was to increase public awareness of contemporary art. As part of this mission, the Association began collecting unique statistics on the Russian art market, conducted the Collector's track educational program and organized several discussions for a wide audience in different cities of Russia. An important step in this direction was the 3rd day of the Cosmoscow Media Forum (October 1). The topics of the public talks were chosen by the gallerists. The main criteria were the relevance of the problem and the lack of an obvious solution. The goal of all educational events of the Association of Galleries is not just to identify problems, but, together with experts, to find their solution directly during the discussion.
Media Forum program
Provenance of the contemporary art object: why it is needed and how to create it
The word provenance is often heard in the antiques market. In the world of contemporary art, the question of the origin of an object is not so pressing. But does this mean that you can forget about it? What steps can strengthen the life history of the purchased work of art? How can the disposition of an object affect its value and subsequent fate? Does a collector today accept responsibility for the fate of a work for the next 100 years?

Moderator:
Polina Tolokova - director of the Association of Galleries, art critic

Speakers:
Natalia Grigorieva-Litvinskaya - founder of the Lumiere Gallery
Mikhail Kamensky - art critic, collecting historian and investigator

Setting up connections: art markets in Asia and Russia
Our art market is able to react quickly to circumstances and always find ways to support artists. There are already ideas about Russian art entering the Asian market. Will our young market be able to interest world leaders? What do artists and gallerists need to know and where should international initiatives be directed?

Declare cannot hide: where to put a comma
While some are putting international art transportation on pause, others are actively involved in the process, learning new rules and ready to share their experience. In 2021, the Association, together with Fineartway, issued a customs instruction for the transportation of cultural property, which suddenly lost relevance last year. A year later, we are again ready to discuss with experts the topic of declaration, import and export of art and all the innovations from our reality.

Moderator:

Diana Motsonashvili - director of Fineartway

Speakers:
Egor Plotnikov - artist
Andrey Kucha - head of the cultural property insurance department of Alfa-Insurance
Yulia Klimko - organizer of the Vladivostok International Biennale of Visual Arts, director of the "Enso"
Association of galleries - is an open organization.
We are welcome new members – Russian contemporary art galleries, who share our values and principles.
