From December 15 to 17, 2023, the Association of Galleries held the new contemporary art fair |catalog| in Moscow. The historical printing house of Ivan Sytin on Pyatnitskaya Street, also known as the First Printing House, was chosen as a venue.
About the |catalog| art fair

A distinctive feature of the fair is its exhibition format. One booth presented the artworks of both young and established artists. Thus, the organizers provide all participants with equal exhibition conditions. The fair is planned as a repeated event and will be held not only in Moscow, but also in other cities of Russia. The characteristics of the local art scene will be taken into account in every fair's event.

31 galleries took part in the first edition of the fair. The fair was visited by more than 6,000 people. More than 50% of purchases were made by new collectors. The cost of an artwork at the fair started from 10,000 rubles, the most expensive object cost 4,800,000 rubles.

Next issue of the |catalog| art fair will take place in the spring in Moscow. The fair is organized by the Association of Galleries (AGA). The initiators are gallerists Dmitry Khankin, Alexander Sharov and Alina Kryukova and the founder of the Winzavod Center for Contemporary Art Sofia Trotsenko. The initiative was supported by Andrey Severilov and Valery Nosov, publishers of the conceptual project about art and style Black Square.

Discussions
December 16, 2023 Association of Galleries held a discussion "Education of Price: Russian Art Market". Transparent pricing is one of the activities of the Association of Galleries, which will continue in 2024. The fair itself has become one of the platforms that follows this principle. The obligatory representation of the young artist at gallery booths ensured a wide range of prices. Such mechanisms will allow us to grow new groups of collectors.

The invited speakers highlighted a central role of the gallery in the price formation process. Other important criteria are: publications in the media, trends, the artist's background, number of personal exhibitions (especially abroad), participation in museum projects, etc. One of the options for solving the problem could be the development of a document with recommendations on price formation, as well as drawing up a package of legal documents regulating the relationship between contemporary art market participants.

Don't forget that everyone has an opportunity to do independent research - you can always ask gallery owners to be your guides to the world of contemporary art.
Association of galleries - is an open organization.
We are welcome new members – Russian contemporary art galleries, who share our values and principles.
